Momentopia & BI Brooch

- Momentopia -

This Momentopia Brooch was made from silver and old camera lenses.
I colored the backside of the lenses with black and silver. By colouring the lenses, they were no longer transparent, instead they began reflecting the light like a polished stone. Each lens has it ́s own original coating; it could be a hard coating, UV coating, non-reflection coating and so on and depending on the angle, the surface coating generates different color reflections.

Photography is a moment and creates a new world, which has not existed before.
The lenses have seen eras and moments. They’ve seen a lot of happiness and also sadness. When I imagine this, I begin to fantasize about all of the things lenses have seen.

- BI Brooch -

This BI Brooch is built from a dichroic mirror, which reflect two different colours.
The pattern of the surface comes from my bokeh photo series that I 've been fascinated photographed earlier time and time again.
It is equipped with two levels but inside reflects each other and thereby gains a brooch deeper space in itself.

The title BI comes from the English prefix meaning two, like bi-cycle, bi-lingual or bi-sexual. But for me, the word BI has a very open meaning – after this word always comes another word. It’s not only about the two colors but also about the openness of perception.

Jiro Kamata

Jiro Kamata was born in 1978 to a family of jewelers in the ancient city of Hirosaki, situated in northern Japan. Despite his family origins, he instinctively resisted going into the jewelry industry. In 2000, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Otto Künzli, who was then recognized for his progressive artistic development. Underlying all his break-through creation is an archeology in which the condensation of special moments – as the macrocosmos – exist through the transformation from each ordinary life into an embrace of all possibilities, combining them with a keen attempt to continue a monumental memory.
